Firm hired to collect city court fines for West Point

WEST POINT — The city of West Point has hired a private company to collect delinquent municipal court fines.

The Daily Times Leader reports that city selectmen this week hired American Municipal Services of Jackson.

AMS officials say 25 percent would be added to past due court fines and fees as its compensation.

Interim police chief Bobby Lane says uncollected fines totaled $1.3 million as of Jan. 8.

Lane says AMS officials have said they will look for people who may not live in West Point but still owe fines to the city court.
