Flooring company expanding in north Miss.
HERNANDO, Miss. (AP) — Shamrock Plan Flooring will move its manufacturing operations to Hernando, adding about 25 jobs in the DeSoto County community.
The Commercial Appeal reported (http://bit.ly/10grHkJ ) the announcement of the company’s expansion plan was made on Monday.
Shamrock’s plans call for moving manufacturing, much of it now done in China, into a 62,900-square-foot vacant warehouse.
The company said it will invest about $1 million in the project and that operations should be underway by August.
Shamrock, which makes hardwood flooring, already has operations in Horn Lake, where it has 140 workers.
J.T. Shannon Lumber, its parent company, is headquartered there and also has operations in Indiana.
“Twenty-five new jobs is a big deal for Hernando,” Mayor Chip Johnson said. “The message is Hernando is open for business.”
It was the second economic development announcement in Hernando in recent weeks.
In April, Schulz Xtruded Products, based in neighboring Tunica County, announced a plan to expand operations into DeSoto County with a pipe-finishing facility.
As much as $50 million is expected to be invested in the project and 70 jobs would be created.
