TUPELO – Ralph Green filed a lawsuit against the Lee County School District last week challenging his termination as principal of the school district’s alternative school.
Green was fired in September and was replaced as principal at the Belden Center by Pam Blissard. Following a closed personnel hearing, the district’s school board upheld the termination in January. Superintendent Jimmy Weeks said Green was terminated for neglecting to fulfill his responsibilities.
The complaint, however, alleges Green was fired for “false reasons” and claims that the real reason was Weeks’ “distrust and dislike of strong black males.”
Green’s attorney, Jim Waide, said his client had a strong record during his 18 years in the district.
“There will be plenty of testimony that he was an outstanding administrator,” Waide said.
Lee County School Board attorney Gary Carnathan said he had not yet been served with the complaint.
“It would be premature for the Board or myself to make a comment at this time,” he said.
The complaint was filed in federal court in Aberdeen. It seeks to recover actual damages and injunctive relief and for Green to be reinstated.
