Former Saltillo High teacher pleads guilty to sexual assault

A former Saltillo High School teacher plead guilty to three counts of felony sexual battery Wednesday.

Elizabeth Hope Johns-Pitman, 32, plead guilty to having sex with a 16-year-old student in October and Sept. of 2009. She was sentenced to serve four months in Lee County Jail by Judge Jim Roberts.

She was also ordered to serve five years probation, serve 200 hours of public service and to write an essay.

“Due to Ms. John’s position as a school teacher and her violation of the trust which comes with that position, the State argued that Ms. Johns should receive some period of incarceration,” District Attorney John Young, and Assistant District Attorney Paul Gault said in a joint statement. “Ultimately, we respect the Court’s decision.”
