TUPELO – The Toyota Wellspring Advisory Committee will host three forums next week to discuss the need to improve career awareness and readiness in public schools.
The forums will be held in Lee, Pontotoc and Union counties Monday-Aug. 20.
They are open to the public, as leaders are interested in receiving community input on the issue.
The CREATE Foundation’s Toyota Wellspring Advisory Committee oversees a $50 million endowment Toyota is providing to improve education in those three counties, which worked together to attract the company to the region.
Among its initiatives was an effort to retain MDC, Inc., of Durham, North Carolina, to analyze the region’s current career readiness assets and to develop a plan that would improve them. Next week’s forum is part of that effort.
“We want to talk about a comprehensive initiative we believe can truly lift our school systems to new heights,” Sean Suggs, vice president of administration for Toyota Motor Manufacturing Mississippi and a member of the committee, said in a news release.
