TUPELO – Festivities start at 1 p.m. Saturday for the 6th Annual Communities Forward Festival.
The festival was created by Ward 4 Councilwoman Nettie Davis as a way to bridge the gap between law enforcement and the community. Sgt. Katarsha White is helping to coordinate the event.
The festival begins at 1 p.m. with a parade. At 2 p.m. the full event kicks off at Gumtree Park on Front Street. There will be the annual barbecue cook-off, three on three basketball tournament and music by local bands and singers.
White said police will participate in the festival and will be out getting to know people.
“We want to strengthen our relationship with the community,” said White. “That’s a good thing about this festival. It’s a chance for police to show the public that we are all citizens of Tupelo uniform or not.”
