ABERDEEN – City leaders have traded one collection agency for another in an effort to collect past due utility bills.
Mayor Jim Ballard and the Aberdeen Board of Aldermen decided a collection agency hired by the city to collect past due electric debts had been ineffective.
“We are only writing these off for accounting purposes, not for forgiveness,” Ballard said. “I will be meeting with a representative from Franklin Collection Services so that these debts can be actively collected. We had decided to go with Alliance Collections but they have only actively pursued 15 accounts and they haven’t collected any money. One of the primary people with the company said he lives in Aberdeen and he doesn’t want to collect on Aberdeen residents.”
At Ballard’s request, the board voted 5-0 to hire Franklin Collection Agency.
