FULTON – Five people were arrested by the Itawamba County Sheriff’s Department Friday for allegedly stealing cars and setting them on fire.
Itawamba County Sheriff Leon Hayes said he was not sure what the motive was behind the thefts and arsons. The group had allegedly stolen three cars earlier this week, Hayes said. He said the group is connected to a total of at least 12 stolen vehicles, including some from Lee County.
Arrested were Fulton residents Dwayne Brown, 17, 907 S. Roberts St., and Charles David Miles, 20, 800 S. Clifton St. Each was charged with grand larceny and arson. Additional charges of resisting arrest, driving with a suspended license and reckless driving were levied against Miles.
Ken Milner, 24, and a 16-year-old juvenile, both of Fulton, were each charged with grand larceny. Lydia Handley, 23, of Fulton was charged with accessory after the fact.
Four of the five were still in custody Friday afternoon. The juvenile had been released to his guardian.
Brown and Miles were picked up during traffic stops; Fulton police arrested Milner and Handley; and the juvenile was picked up by sheriff’s deputies.
