Fulton leaders examine saggy pants ordinance

FULTON – Fulton’s leaders have become the latest in a line of Mississippi municipalities taking a belt to saggy pants.
During its regular meeting last week, the Fulton Board of Aldermen discussed the possibility of implementing a new public indecency ordinance that would include a ban on wearing pants or skirts more than three inches below the top of the hip. No action was taken and it will be discussed again at its next meeting on July 17.
If the ordinance passes, violators will be hit with a $50 fine. Continued violators will face steeper fees. Violators also can be ordered to participate in up to 40 hours of community service.
The ordinance, which mirrors the one Tupelo passed earlier this year, also bans a variety of other lewd or sexual acts, including fondling, offensive gestures and complete or partial nudity.
