A Fulton man has been airlifted to the North Mississippi Medical Center after running his truck off a bridge on Lake Itawamba Road.
Paramedics pulled David Chilcoat of Fulton from the wreckage of his Chevrolet pickup truck a little after 2 p.m. on Friday afternoon. Although the extent of his injuries are still not known at this time, Chilcoat had visible bleeding lacerations on his face and one of his eyes was swollen shut. Officials said they hadn’t ruled out the possibility of internal injuries.
Chilcoat’s truck was found by a passerby wedged in a ditch on Fulton’s Lake Itawamba Road, near a small bridge. Officials still do not know how long he was trapped in the truck before being discovered.
Chilcoat was conscious when paramedics arrived. He said loose gravel caused him to lose control of the vehicle and run off the road. He was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident.
