Funeral services held for Lee County volunteer firefighter

By NEMS Daily Journal

Funeral services were held today for Josh Wilkes, a Lee County volunteer fireman who died after leaving the scene of a fire on Feb. 13.

The service was at Senter Funeral Home Chapel in Fulton and the burial was at the Altar Baptist Church Cemetery near Tremont.

Wilkes was a member of the Unity Volunteer Fire Department.

Lee County Coroner Carolyn Gillentine-Green said the exact cause of 26-year-old Joshua Wilkes’ death is still being investigated. But, she said, it was not related to the fire.

Wilkes collapsed in a convenience store after going inside to get a drink after helping to put out a fire.

Wilkes had four children.

Donations may be made to “The Josh Wilkes Childrens Fund” at any Trustmark Bank.
