JACKSON — Friends and former colleagues will gather this week in Okolona to remember longtime state Sen. Jack Gordon, who died Saturday night. He was 66.
Visitation is 5-8 p.m. Monday and funeral services are 1 p.m. Tuesday at Okolona First Baptist Church. That’s according to Sen. Terry Burton of Newton, who’s acting as spokesman for the Gordon family.
Gordon, a Democrat, began his legislative career in the House, where he served from 1972 to 1980.
He served in the Senate from 1980 to 1992, and again from 1996 until his death.
Gordon chaired the powerful Senate Appropriations Committee for 12 years, until January 2008.
He was diagnosed more than a year ago with brain cancer. Survivors include his wife, Martha, and their three grown daughters.
