Furniture company announces expansion
SMITHVILLE – Town Creek Furniture hopes to offer a little good news to Monroe County with a 20,000-square-foot expansion that will provide for 40 new jobs.
Co-owners Larry Parker and Dwight Kennedy announced the expansion last week. Parker said during the last five years his company has produced three-piece living room suites. Because of an increase in demand, more room is need for production.
“We need it (the additional room) bad,” Parker said. Town Creek Furniture is located in Smithville and currently employs 40 people. The expansion will give the facility up to 50,000 square feet.
Parker said the company expects to spend $175,000 on the facility.
Construction on the expansion has begun and is expected to be completed by the end of June, Parker said. The company should be operational in the expanded area by the end of July.
“I feel that it will help because so many businesses have closed their doors or have moved on,” Parker said. “I hope we can take up some of the slack. I know it will help the county.”
