Future uncertain for Knight’s Restaurant

TUPELO – The owners of Knight’s Restaurant in Saltillo haven’t decided if they will rebuild after a fire Sunday destroyed the building.
Don Knight, who owns the business with his wife, Barbara, said he is meeting today with his insurance company before he makes any decisions.
“At our age, we’re just kind of looking,” he said. “We don’t have enough insurance to rebuild it like I had it. We’re at a point where I don’t know.”
Lee County fire investigator Ed Fugitt said Wednesday the fire was determined to be accidental and the investigation is closed, unless something else comes up.
Fugitt said the fire, which was reported at 9:16 a.m. Sunday, started in the attic space above the kitchen, but he was unable to determine the exact cause.
“So much of it is burned that what we needed to look at was gone,” Fugitt said.
Firefighters from six departments battled the blaze until 5:20 p.m.
Knight, who also owns Johnnie’s Drive In in Tupelo, said his phones have been ringing constantly from Knight’s customers offering their regrets about the fire.
“I want to thank everybody that participated with us at Knight’s Restaurant,” he said Wednesday. “If you get hungry, come to Johnnie’s and we’ll show you the same hospitality from Knight’s.”
