Garner adds third attorney for kickback, bribery case

OXFORD – Earnest Levi “Lee” Garner Jr. of Batesville has a third attorney on his team as he faces multiple federal charges.
Tuesday, William B. Kirksey of Jackson posted the necessary papers with the U.S. District Court to represent Garner.
His other attorneys are Christi R. McCoy of Oxford and Ronald Michael of Booneville.
Garner, 66, was indicted in February with Ray Shoemaker, 38, of Tupelo.
They pleaded not guilty to grand jury accusations they were part of a nursing services kickback and bribery scheme at Tri-Lakes Medical Center in Batesville.
Garner is a former All-America linebacker for the Ole Miss Rebels.
He and Shoemaker are scheduled for trial May 9 before Senior U.S. District Judge Neal Biggers.
