Glen group seeks route named for Buddy Bain

CORINTH – A civic group, formed recently in the town of Glen, asked the Alcorn County Board of Supervisors on Monday to consider a resolution designating a route from Glen to Jacinto to honor the late Buddy Bain.
Bill Strickland spoke on behalf of the Glen Girls Club to present the route map and ask for consideration. If a resolution is approved it would be used to present the request to the Legislature before the session ends in early May.
Hubert E. “Buddy” Bain, a well-known popular radio and television personality for many years who died in 1997, grew up in the Glen community and the route passes his old homeplace, Strickland said. Bain married Corinth native Kay Bain, who continues her work as a WTVA television personality, singer and weekly morning show host.
Beginning at U.S. Highway 72, the proposed route of the “Buddy Bain/Jacinto Trail” extends south on CR 300 to its intersection with Mississippi Highway 367. It continues southwest as Highway 367 to CR 343, then left on CR 343 to state Highway 356. The route continues west on Highway 356 to Jacinto.
“Buddy and Kay, and Kay continues now, to do a lot for this community,” Strickland said. “A lot of folks who do things for our city and county go unsung.”
