Hundreds visit Presley’s East Tupelo birthplace

Hundreds visited the East Tupelo home of one of America’s most beloved entertainers this weekend and on Monday, the official anniversary of Elvis Aron Presley’s birth.

Officials at the Elvis Presley birthplace reported that about 700 people visited the small home and museum on Sunday and Monday.

Presley died of an apparent drug overdose on Aug. 16, 1977, in his Memphis home, Graceland.

Since the proclaimed king of rock ‘n’ roll’s death, both his Memphis home and the small two-room house where he was born to Gladys and Vernon Presley have become popular tourist attractions, particularly during the “Birth Week” and “Death Week” anniversaries.
