Crime Stoppers of Northeast Mississippi needs help in solving an aggravated assault that occurred last month at the Furniture Market.

About 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 18, a security guard working at the Furniture Market on Coley Road was run over with a car after he tried to stop a man who was leaving with a lamp he had purchased. According to Furniture Market etiquette, purchased items are not to leave the building until after the market closes at 5 p.m. Sunday.

Witnesses said the man, accompanied by a woman and small child were approached by a guard who attempted to stop them. After an exchange of words, the man and his guests got into a vehicle and ran over the guard.

The guard was transported to the North Mississippi Medical Center for treatment.

The vehicle is described as a gray 1995 or ’96 Jeep Cherokee with a silver rack on the top. The vehicle possibly had a Tennessee license plate. The driver was a white male, about 5 feet 8 inches, with brown hair. He appeared to be in his late 30s.

Crime Stoppers will pay the first correct caller up to $1,000 for information leading to an arrest in this incident.

Anyone with information on this crime or any other crime, the location of stolen property, illegal drugs or a fugitive from justice, is urged to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-773-TIPS. Cellular One Customers can dial *TIP.
