TUPELO -A workshop on March 28 will help to provide more and updated information on alcoholism.

The workshop, sponsored by the National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence of Northeast Mississippi and the Trace Recovery Center in Houston, will be from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Hancock Leadership Center on the Itawamba Community College Tupelo Campus.

There is a $25 fee for the program that will take a look at the pathophysiology of alcohol dependence; treatment interventions; dual diagnosis issues; and mixed addictions. The workshop is open to mental health professionals, nurses, alcohol and drug counselors, youth service workers, parents and anyone who has an interest in staying abreast of the latest information on alcoholism.

The feature speaker will be Dr. Mark Peterson of Chattanooga, Tenn. Peterson, a graduate of the University of Tennessee and Northwestern University Medical School, is a board-certified psychiatrist. He is currently the medical director at Greenleaf Center in Chattanooga.
