Governor's School accepting applications

COLUMBUS, Miss. (AP) — The Mississippi Governor’s School is accepting applications for the 2013 session from current 10th and 11th grade students.

The school will be held on the campus of Mississippi University for Women on June 2-21 in Columbus. The theme for the session is Going Global.

Officials say the program focuses on academic enrichment and leadership development while introducing students to the collegiate atmosphere.

The program was established in 1981 by Gov. William Winter.

It is open to rising high school juniors and seniors who have demonstrated exceptional ability and achievement and who show high intellectual, creative and leadership potential.

Participants earn college credit.
