TUPELO – A “green fair” Sunday will provide residents with entertainment, energy efficiency tips and free lightbulbs.
The north branch of the Mississippi chapter of the U.S. Green Building Council has organized the “Spring into Green!” event at the park directly in front of City Hall from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.
The fair is the public kickoff for a three-day workshop for building and lighting professionals.
Karen Keeney, a spokeswoman for the branch, said the Fairpark event is geared toward providing residents and building professionals with information about environmentally friendly construction techniques.
Vendors will have information about topics such as eco-friendly paint, new eco-friendly building materials and architectural elements that can make a house more energy efficient.
But the event is about more than learning, she said.
“It’s going to be fun,” she said. “We saw the success of the free concerts in Fairpark and this is a derivative of that.”
The Benders, a band led by Chris Root who coordinated the Down on Main concert series, will play at the fair. Keeney said there also will be an inflatable jumping house and a rock wall.
Everything at the fair will be free, she said, except for food, drinks and T-shirts.
Plus, compact fluorescent lights and reusable shopping bags will be given away to attendees on a first-come, first-served basis, she said.
