GREENVILLE, Miss. (AP) — Although Jackson has had more homicides so far this year than any other city in the state, Greenville’s homicide rate is nearly double that of Mississippi’s capital.
The Delta Democrat Times reports that Greenville had 11 homicides through Sept. 1, compared to 28 in Jackson.
But because Greenville is about one-fifth the size of Jackson, that works out to almost 31 homicides per 100,000 residents in Greenville, compared to about 16 per 100,000 residents in Jackson.
Clarksdale, which is about half the size of Greenville, has had three homicides — but its murder rate is about the same as Jackson’s.
