JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — Harvey Franklin Sr., superintendent of the Greenville Public School District, has resigned.
The Delta Democrat Times reports that the school board accepted the resignation during an emergency meeting Tuesday. Franklin’s resignation is effective immediately
Deputy Superintendent Leeson Taylor II has been named “acting interim superintendent” until June 30, the end of the district’s fiscal year.
Franklin’s annual salary was $141,000. Franklin was hired as the district superintendent in 2009.
Greenville Public Schools are rated low-performing for the 2011-2012 school year by the Mississippi Department of Education. The low-performing rating is up from the at-risk of failing rating the district had in the 2009-2010 and 2010-2011 school years.
Six of the district’s 13 schools are rated low-performing or worse.
