GREENWOOD, Miss. (AP) — Greenwood police are investigating the death of a man who was stabbed and beaten.
Authorities identified the victim was identified as 46-year-old Johnny Howard Garrett.
Police Chief Henry Purnell tells the Greenwood Commonwealth the stabbing stemmed from a domestic dispute between Garrett and his one-time girlfriend, Tammy Leverett. Authorities allege that Garrett also stabbed Leverett multiple times. Leverett has been hospitalized.
Purnell says Garrett was attacked by a group of people who were trying to pull him off Leverett. Purnell says Garrett was hit with an iron pipe and then was stabbed repeatedly with the knife he allegedly used on Leverett.
Purnell says the case will be presented to a grand jury.
