Gunn backs Snowden for speaker pro tempore

JACKSON — The Republican caucus in the Mississippi House has selected Rep. Greg Snowden of Meridian as speaker pro tempore.

Rep. Philip Gunn, R-Clinton, who is expected to be elected House Speaker next week, recommended Snowden for the No. 2 leadership post. The pro temp is chairman of the House Management Committee and presides in the absence of the speaker.

Snowden was elected to his fourth term in the House in November.

The Clarion-Ledger reports that Gunn also recommended — and the GOP caucus endorsed — the selection of Andrew Ketchings, a former worker for Gov. Haley Barbour and a former lawmaker — for House clerk.
