GUNTOWN – Lee County officials believe a body found late Thursday near Guntown may have been the result of a hunting accident.
The body of the unidentified man, who authorities believe may have been in his 60s, was discovered shortly before 10 p.m. in a muddy, wooded area off state Highway 348, said Lee County Medical Examiner Roy Barnett.
The man’s body was found near a barbed-wire fence. A shotgun that had spent one shell was lying nearby. The man had a wound to the chest.
Officials had to use four-wheel-drive vehicles and four-wheelers to get to the location of the body.
Barnett said an autopsy would be conducted on the body today, when more information is expected to be released.
