Will Hall, the former Amory standout, opens his first season as head coach at West Alabama tonight with a trip to South Alabama.
Kickoff time in Mobile, Ala., is set for 6:30 p.m.
“Our team is excited about heading down there,” said Hall.
South Alabama, which launched its program in 2009, went 10-0 last season and is unbeaten (17-0) since first taking the field. West Alabama went 7-4 in 2010, the last season for Division II coaching legend Bobby Wallace.
Hall, son of current Madison Central head coach Bobby Hall, spent three seasons as offensive coordinator at West Alabama before his promotion in November.
Hall, 30, won the Harlon Hill Trophy as the top player in Division II in 2003 as quarterback at North Alabama. He played two seasons at Northwest Mississippi Community College before heading to UNA.
West Alabama’s offensive coordinator is Hall’s former Amory teammate, Sam Gregg, while former Kossuth coach and Ole Miss assistant Robert Henry is the defensive coordinator.
Delta State: The second-ranked DSU Statesmen (1-0) play a second consecutive Thursday game, a visit to Northwestern State (0-0).
