OXFORD – A Hamilton man was sentenced to one year in prison after pleading guilty in federal court to stealing a firearm from a Hamilton gun shop.

Joshua Ryan Welch, 29, of Hamilton, was indicted on two counts – one of stealing a rifle from Mitch’s Gun Shop in May 2013, and one of transporting a stolen firearm.

In exchange for his guilty plea, the federal government did not pursue the second charge.

U.S. Northern District Judge Michael P. Mills sentence Welch to serve 12 months and one day in prison and ordered he pay $389 in restitution and a $100 fine.
