IUKA – School officials and the school resource officer earlier this week took a loaded handgun from a student who allegedly had it in his possession at the Tishomingo County Career and Technical Center.

Superintendent Benny McClung said the principal received report of the handgun Monday and, with the school resource officer, used the security procedures for which they had been trained to disarm the student.

There was no resistance, and the student was turned over to county law enforcement for transport to the Alcorn County Juvenile Detention Center in Corinth.

Information on the juvenile’s status was unavailable late Friday.

Got to wonder what prompted the student to carry a weapon in the first place.
