Harrison Co. school buses will soon have alarms

By The Associated Press

BILOXI, Miss. (AP) — The Harrison County School District is installing a new alarm system to force drivers to check their buses after every route. The move comes after two incidences in which children were left alone on school buses.

WLOX TV reports the Check Mate system sends a very loud warning for all bus drivers to check on the children.

Larry Benefield, Harrison County School District Transportation Director, says the blaring noise is something no bus driver should hear. It is part of a new alarm system being installed on 160 school buses in the district. Benefield says 46 of the newer buses already come equipped with an alarm system.
