COLUMBUS — A Columbus Municipal Court hearing to appoint a public defender for a California man charged in a double homicide at local nightclub has been rescheduled for April 7.

Police say 43-year-old Daniel Paul Copple of Lucerne Valley, Calif., has been charged with two counts of murder in the shooting deaths of James Bennett Man of Columbus and Mark Caudill of Birmingham, Ala., on Feb. 16 at the Elbow Room Lounge in downtown Columbus. He is being held on $3 million bond in the Lowndes County jail.

Copple is also charged with aggravated assault for a hit-and-run accident the night before.
