ABERDEEN – A May 16 hearing is set to consider if a federal judge should remove herself from presiding over a lawsuit against Tupelo Public School District.
Calvin Ellis of Tupelo sued the school district after he was terminated as its high school choral director.
His attorney, David Butts of Tupelo, recently asked U.S. District Judge Sharion Aycock to step down from the case for several reasons, including that she reportedly is related by marriage to the chairman of the school board, which upheld Ellis’ firing.
The hearing is set to begin at 9 a.m. in the Aberdeen federal courthouse.
