TUPELO — Summer thunderstorms provided relief from triple-digit heat in parts of northern Mississippi but they also caused problems — scattered power outages and roof damage.
In Tupelo, damage was reported Thursday afternoon to the tin awning of a popular hardware store. Other minor damage was reported to other businesses.
Downed power lines, roof damage and debris on roads also were reported in the Corinth area. No injuries were reported.
Heat advisories remained in effect Friday, with forecast highs in the upper 90s. Humidity was expected to again push heat index readings into the triple digits, exceeding 110 in some areas.
