hed: 2 NE Miss. construction firms combine forces
Two Northeast Mississippi construction firms have combined operations to take advantage of booming construction activity in the region and state.
Hill Bros. Leasing Co. Inc. in Falkner and Worsham Bros. Inc. in Corinth are merging operations but will not create a new company or change the names of the firms.
The leasing company leases construction equipment and is related to Hill Bros. Construction Co., an excavation construction company founded in 1978, said Jimmy Hill, the firm’s secretary-treasurer.
Hank Worsham said the family firm, founded in 1945, is an engineering firm involved in the construction of metal buildings. The company also is a developer of residential properties in Alcorn County, he said.
The move is a “complementary merger,” Hill said. The companies can pursue projects that include site work and construction. “Both companies can accommodate a customer much more readily than if they operated independently,” he said.
Hill Brothers, which also operates in Louisiana, Arkansas, Tennessee and Alabama, employs about 450 workers. Worsham has a payroll of 25.
Mississippi’s highway construction program has helped Hill Bros. “I get excited about the (state’s four-laning program) every time I think about it. It’s very difficult not to find a four-lane road within a few miles of where you live,” Hill said.
