HED: Alcorn Co. court delivers sentences

CORINTH – Several defendants learned the consequences of dealing in drugs and burglarizing businesses and residences during the February term of Alcorn County Circuit Court.

For some first time offenders, there was a chance at probation. For others, it meant imprisonment.

The following defendants entered pleas during the term:

– Jeremy Shawn Patterson, 19, Route 7, Box 199A, Corinth, pleaded guilty to two counts of sale of cocaine. He was sentenced to two concurrent terms of 16 years in prison and recommended to the Regimented Inmate Discipline program at the request of Sheriff Jimmy Taylor. He was fined a total of $4,000 and ordered to make restitution totaling $590 to the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics, $50 to the State Crime Lab.

– Ronald Hawkins, 35, Bridge St., Apt. 20, Booneville, pleaded guilty to burglary and larceny and enticing a juvenile to commit a felony. He was sentenced to two concurrent seven-year terms and placed under house arrest. He was ordered to pay $610 in restitution to the victim.

– Jimmy Dale Whitaker, 33, Beechwood Circle, Corinth, pleaded guilty to two counts of attempted robbery (purse snatching). He was sentenced to two concurrent five-year terms, four years suspended and one year to serve. He was ordered to make restitution. Upon release from prison, he will be placed on four years supervised probation.

– Major O’Neal Hamm, last address Parchman Penitentiary, pleaded guilty to grand larceny as a habitual offender. He was sentenced to the maximum term of five years to run consecutive to terms he is already serving from Tippah and Prentiss counties. He was ordered to make restitution of $250 to the victim. Two counts of grand larceny were retired to the files.

– William Henry Dunbar Jr., 20, 2615 North Madison St., Corinth, pleaded guilty to possession of crack cocaine. The judge withheld acceptance of his plea pending successful completion of three years supervised probation. He was ordered to pay $125 to the State Crime Lab and a $1,000 fine, court costs and attorney fees.

– Steve Washington Irby Jr., 44, Gaines Road, Trailer No. 1, Corinth, pleaded guilty to two counts of sale of crack cocaine. He was sentenced to two concurrent 10-year terms, given credit for time served and the remainder of the term was suspended. He was placed on five years supervised probation. He was fined a total of $10,000, suspended pending future good behavior and ordered to make restitution to the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics of $400.

– Mary Ann Watson, 20, 13410 Mt. Hester Road, Cherokee, Ala., pleaded guilty to four counts of breaking and entering. She was sentenced to 10 years on each count, suspended and placed on five years supervised probation. She was ordered to make restitution totaling $1,235 to the victim in one case.

– Neal Watson, 24, a co-defendant with his wife, Mt. Hester Road, Cherokee, pleaded guilty to five counts of breaking and entering. He was sentenced to 16 years on each count with the terms to run concurrent, 10 years suspended, leaving six to serve. He will be placed on five years post-release probation. He was ordered to make restitution totaling $3,090.

– Annie Lou Irby, 41, 1313 Tate St., Corinth, pleaded guilty to seven counts of sale of cocaine. She was sentenced to five concurrent 10 year terms in prison with eight years suspended, two years to serve. She will be placed on three years probation upon release. She was fined $5,000, suspended and ordered to make restitution for the buy money to the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics and the Alcorn County Sheriff’s Department, and to repay lab fees.

– Vicki Keith, 27, 1208 Wick St., Corinth, pleaded guilty to two counts possession of cocaine. She was sentenced to three years in prison and recommended for the RID program. She was fined $2,000, with $1,000 suspended, and ordered to make restitution to the state Bureau of Narcotics and sheriff’s department and to pay the State Crime Lab $250.

– Vance Lee Clark, 45, Route 7, Box 185 D, Corinth, pleaded guilty to DUI-third offense within a five-year period. He was sentenced to five years and placed under house arrest for one year. He was fined $2,000, $1,000 suspended.

– John Eugene McGaughy, 27, County Road 632, House No. 115, Corinth, pleaded guilty to insurance fraud for reporting illegally the theft of a 1996 Polaris four-wheeler to Farm Bureau Insurance Co. The judge withheld acceptance of his plea and pending successful completion of one year probation. He was fined $500.

– Michael Smith, 27, address unavailable, pleaded guilty to accessory after the fact to burglary and possession of an automobile without authority. He was sentenced to five years in prison, three years suspended and two years to serve.

– Phillip Sellers, 18, Route 6, Box 261, Corinth, pleaded guilty to four counts of burglaries in Prentiss County, Alcorn County and Itawamba County. He was sentenced to 12 years in prison and recommended for the Regimented Inmate Discipline Program and the restitution center in order to make restitution totaling about $7,000.

– Alma Henderson pleaded guilty to two counts of possession of Dilaudid in a Prentiss County case. She was sentenced to two concurrent three-year sentences and placed under an intensive supervision program (house arrest), fined $1,000 and ordered to pay $360 to the State Crime Lab.
