Hed: Elderly corinth woman struck and killed by pickup

CORINTH – An elderly woman died Thursday afternoon after being struck by a vehicle while crossing a street near her residence.

The victim was identified as Rosa L. Arnette, 84, Ft. Robinett Apartment 306, Waldron Street, Corinth.

Arnette was struck by a 1982 Datsun pickup driven by Tommy H. Lindsey, 40, Alcorn County Road 608, Walnut, said Corinth Police Chief Fred Johnson. The accident occurred about 4:30 p.m.

According to the police report, Lindsey was traveling south on Fulton Drive. He told police that as he approached the intersection with Waldron Street, he felt an impact and only then saw the woman. He tried to swerve to the left to avoid running over her, he told police.

Arnette died shortly after the accident at Magnolia Regional Health Center.

No charges were filed Thursday. The accident is still under investigation.
