Hed: Lee County escapee back in custody

A man who walked out of the Lee County Jail Friday was back in custody Tuesday.

Richard Beasley, 33, of Sherman was charged with jail escape. Under that charge, he could have an additional five years added to his sentence.

Beasley walked away from the jail Friday, two days after he had been arrested on charges of burglary and possession of a controlled substance.

Lee County Chief Deputy Steve Brooks said Beasley had been placed in an area to wait on the arrival of his bondsman so that he could be released from jail until his court date.

After being placed in the waiting room, Beasley walked away from the jail.

Union County authorities returned him Sunday, Brooks said, after he was picked up at his mother’s home.

Beasley was in the Lee County Jail Tuesday without bond.
