HED: Public hearing today on proposed power plant
BATESVILLE – A public hearing is scheduled from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. today for citizens to give input on the possible environmental impact of a proposed $400 million natural gas power plant in Batesville.
The Tennessee Valley Authority will conduct the public hearing, to be held at the offices of the Tallahatchie Valley Electric Power Association, to seek comments on what should be included in an environmental impact statement. TVA expects to release a final environmental impact statement on the proposed power plant by May.
Representatives of TVA and LSP Energy Limited Partnership, the company that will build and operate the 750-megawatt power plant, will be available at today’s public hearing to answer questions about the project.
Written comments about the environmental impact of the proposed plant may be submitted by Sept. 13 to Greg Askew, Tennessee Valley Authority, 400 W. Summit Drive, Knoxville, TN 37902, or by e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org
