Hed: Tailgating treats Deck: New cookbook features recipes to make food-fests out of football weekends

If it’s time to shake up your tailgating recipe repertoire, check out a new cookbook that’s sure to give you game time inspiration.
“The Official SEC Tailgating Cookbook by Southern Living” (Oxmoor House, $19.95) is 250 pages of recipes from breakfast dishes, appetizers and drinks to soups, chilis, sandwiches, side dishes and desserts. The color photos are enough to send you into a food coma.
The cookbook features menus from each of the 14 Southeastern Conference football teams along with tips for grilling, a food safety playbook and, of course, custom-created recipes.
My co-worker Leslie Criss received the cookbook in the mail a week or so ago and begrudgingly passed it on to me and we’ve been fighting over it ever since. I’ve already made the White Lightning Chicken Chili, and Leslie said John’s Red Beans amp& Rice was delicious.
I picked five recipes to highlight here: a breakfast dish, a dessert, a sandwich, a dip and a salad. Enjoy!
