HED: Teen-ager charged in Sunday shooting

AMORY Police have arrested an Amory teen in connection with a Sunday night shooting that wounded a teen-age girl.

Joe L. West, 17, of 52221 Mississippi Highway 25 South, was charged with aggravated assault in the 10:15 p.m. shooting on Martin Luther King Drive, said Amory Police Chief Ronnie Bowen. West is accused of firing into a vehicle and striking one of its occupants.

The girl, who is either 17 or 18, is currently in stable condition at an area hospital, Bowen said. Police are withholding her name until they determine if she is a minor.

Investigators believe the shooting is the result of an ongoing dispute among four people, but the underlying cause for the shootings is unknown, Bowen said.

Bond for West was set at $30,000.
