HED: Tupelo woman among state flood relief volunteers
A Tupelo woman is among 12 Red Cross volunteers who left Monday to travel to Pennsylvania to assist in relief efforts for flooding victims.
Leslie Posey, the new director of the Tupelo Red Cross office, said Ruth Christy of Tupelo left Monday with 12 other volunteers from across the state to travel to Harrisburg, Penn., which has been hit hard by flooding along the Susquehanna River.
Posey said Christy and the other Mississippi volunteers are expected to spend between three and four weeks providing what is known as “mass care,” the feeding and housing of people driven from their homes by the floodwaters.
Anyone wishing to donate to the Red Cross for the flood relief effort or who would like to become a Red Cross volunteer to help with future assistance can contact the Tupelo office at P.O. Box 966, Tupelo, MS 38802 or by calling 842-6101.
