HED:Agents seize 53 rocks of crack, arrest two
VERONA – Narcotics agents seized 53 rocks of crack cocaine and arrested two people at a County Road 814 residence Thursday night.
Lee County Vice Narcotics Task Force agents seized 53 rocks of crack and 3.5 grams of residue from the rocks, in all worth about $1,500 on local streets.
The seizure and arrests came after a search of the residence outside Verona, said Lee County Sheriff Harold Ray Presley.
Agents also seized $1,900 in cash that included “buy” money agents had used in an undercover drug investigation at the residence earlier in the week, Presley said. Agents found three weapons in the house as well.
Jimmy L. Long, 57, of P.O. Box 2003, Verona, was charged with two counts of sale of crack cocaine, possession of crack cocaine with intent to distribute and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
When arrested Thursday, Long was out of jail on a $100,000 bond from a March possession of cocaine arrest. Deputies have two other cases on charges of possession of cocaine and receiving stolen property pending against Long.
Bond had not been set for Long for the charges levied Thursday night.
Also charged was Latasha L. Sykes, 27, 400 Plantersville Road, Verona, was charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute. Bond had not been set.
