HED:Houston man arrested after shooting incident

Tupelo police have charged a Houston man in connection with a Monday evening shooting on Willie Moore Road in Tupelo.

With the assistance of Houston police, Steven K. Franklin, 20, of Pineview Apartment J-56 in Houston, was arrested Wednesday on a charge of attempted aggravated assault in connection with shots fired in the 3600 block of Willie Moore Road, said Capt. Harold Chaffin, Tupelo chief of detectives. No one was injured in the incident.

Initially reported as a drive-by shooting, investigators believe Franklin got out of the car before firing the shots, Chaffin said.

Investigators are still trying to determine who fired additional shots into Franklin’s vehicle when it was stuck on the side of the road following the first shooting, Chaffin said. Franklin and two other passengers had fled the car before the second shooting.

Authorities are investigators possible gang involvement in the shooting, Chaffin said.

Franklin was released on a $5,000 bond.
