HED:Humane society fest to begin on Friday

The Tupelo-Lee Humane Society will host a carnival fund-raiser beginning Friday and running through March 20 at the Tupelo Coliseum.

The Daily Journal incorrectly reported in Wednesday’s issue that the carnival would not begin until Sunday.

The carnival, which will include rides, games and concessions, will open at 5 p.m. Friday, and at noon Saturday and Sunday. The rides will be in operation as long as patrons are there.

A percentage of the proceeds from the carnival rides will go to benefit the animals at the shelter.

Bob Crumpton, director of the shelter, said there are 251 animals at the shelter: 62 dogs, 10 cats and 179 puppies.

“We hope to raise at least $10,000. The money helps us to survive and to take care of the animals. It covers the day-to-day expenses,” Crumpton said. “This is the biggest fund-raiser of the year.”
