Helmet ordinance pondered in Amory

By Monroe Journal

AMORY – Officials are considering whether to put an ordinance in place requiring Amory’s bicycle riders to wear helmets.
Mayor Howard Boozer said one of the requirements for winning a Blue Cross Blue Shield Healthy Home Town grant of up to $50,000 was an ordinance regarding helmets for bicycle riders. The city could not win the grant money without it, he said, advising aldermen to discuss the matter with their constituents and come to a consensus as to how to proceed.
The winner of the Healthiest Town in Mississippi would receive a $50,000 grant to make health-related improvements in the community and Amory officials want to pursue it.
