GREENWOOD, Miss. (AP) — “The Help” will hold a premiere in Greenwood, the movie’s director has announced.
The Greenwood Commonwealth reports director Tate Taylor made the announcement this week at the local chamber of commerce’s annual meeting.
The movie, based on Kathryn Stockett’s best-selling novel set in 1960s Jackson, was filmed mostly in Greenwood last summer and will be released Aug. 12. The story explores the relationship between black maids and their white employers, with the emergence of the civil rights movement as a backdrop.
Greenwood officials say they’re currently talking with Disney, the film’s distributor, about setting a date for the premiere.
The movie co-stars Emma Stone, Viola Davis, Bryce Dallas Howard and Octavia Spencer.
