Hernando lawmaker to replace Nunnelee as Appropriations chairman

HERNANDO – Lt. Gov. Phil Bryant announced today the appointment of Doug Davis, R-Hernando, to succeed Alan Nunnelee as Appropriations Committee chairman for the state Senate.
“Sen. Davis has done a remarkable job as vice chairman of Appropriations,” Bryant said. “In these challenging times I need someone who can begin day one and tackle these real issues we will face in the next legislative session. Sen. Davis has served closely with former Chairman Nunnelee, which will make this transition as smooth as possible.”
Nunnelee, of Tupelo, resigned from the Senate on Monday because of his election as 1st District congressman on Nov. 2.
Davis has served in the Senate since winning a special election in 2004. Since 2008, Davis has served as Universities and Colleges chairman. He is the vice president of First Security Bank and past president of the Hernando Chamber of Commerce.
