GUNTOWN – Jeff Herring defeated Chad McMahan in a special election for a vacant position on the Guntown Board of Aldermen.
Herring finished with 169 votes, while McMahan had 151. The election was held on Tuesday, but the result wasn’t official until Wednesday afternoon, when affidavit ballots were counted.
Herring will serve the remainder of Ronny Lindsey’s term, which runs until 2013.
Lindsey had elected to retire from his position. Herring will likely be sworn in at Monday’s regular meeting.
