Highway 6 construction expected to cause delays

Highway 6 from Crosstown in Tupelo to Highway 76 in Pontotoc County will be under construction in various phases of milling and overlay until mid-May, the Mississippi Department of Transportation announced Tuesday.

Work on the project has started on a two-lane segment of Highway 6 in Pontotoc County, and one lane of traffic will be closed for that work.

When work moves to five-lane sections inside Tupelo only one lane at a time will be closed for work, and a highway spokesman said some of that work will be done at night to lessen traffic congestion.

MDOT said delays can be expected during the work, and it suggested motorists take an alternate route.

Highway 6 is major artery connecting Tupelo and the east side of Pontotoc. Highway 76 is the new east-west four-lane highway that’s expected to fully open sometime in May.

So nice of them to let us know in advance. NOT! This project started Monday morning and made a helluva of a lot of people seriously late to work. MDOT didn’t even post a notice about it on their website until this afternoon. Ridiculous.
