A section of Highway 78 shut down by a crash earlier today has completely reopened.

Two large trucks were involved in an accident on 78, west of the Auburn exit, shutting down all lanes of traffic between Auburn Road and Veterans Boulevard for most of the afternoon as crews cleaned up chemicals that spilled onto the road. The eastbound lanes opened first, and then the westbound lanes were finally cleared shortly after 10 p.m.

According to Sgt. Brett Moyer of the Tupelo Police Department, a white truck was traveling east on 78 when it crossed the median and collided with an 18-wheeler. Two other trucks also suffered damage in the accident.

The white truck was carrying cleaning chemicals, some of which spilled during the wreck. A Hazmat team was called to clean up the spill.

No one had to be transported to the hospital.

The accident remains under investigation.
